Workshop on Survivor-Centered Remediation: Developing remedies at the initial reporting and complaints stage
Organized by:

Fair Future
Background
Most victims of business and human rights-related violations face significant barriers to reporting. From fear of retaliation to lack of trust in grievance mechanisms and social stigma, many are likely to end up retracting their reports.
This workshop is designed for legal counsel and personnel from human resources, ethics and compliance, investigations, human rights, and others who are tasked with overseeing corporate response to a human rights violation during the initial and critical stages of detection and reporting.
Traditionally, remedies are viewed as a matter of final outcome in the grievance process. However, this workshop encourages businesses to reconceptualize remedies as an enabler for victims during the grievance and remediation processes.
How can businesses use remedies to create a safe, informed, and just environment for victims to report and follow through with their grievances?
During the workshop, participants will use a survivor-centered framework to identify barriers to reporting and recommend remedies for immediate relief and protection.
Objectives
-
Identify the Barriers Preventing Victims from Reporting Violations: Understand the complex and intersecting factors that deter victims from reporting, from an intersectional, gender-competent, and trauma-informed lens.
-
Recommend Remedies: Develop recommendations for remedies to enable detection of potential violations, encourage reporting, and prioritize the victim’s physical and psychological safety and well-being throughout the grievance process.
Format
The session is designed as a workshop.
The workshop starts with participants watching a role play between an interlocutor and a victim of a business-related sexual and gender-based violation. Following this, participants will break out to discuss the case and draft recommendations for remedies. After the breakout, participants will report back to the full group to discuss key takeaways.
Participants will be given a framework for developing remedies.
